Gardens which aim to produce surpluses of fruit and veg to sell on can be achieved with careful design and planning. Edible Landscaping can help you without compromising on the appearance and ecological value of your landscape be it on a farm property or in your garden.

A market garden design done for Sara Bevan’s farm shop, on the outskirts of Cardiff is an excellent example of this. The brief was to create a small market garden in a field adjacent to the new farm shop which would provide some produce for the shop and a nearby restaurant. It was important however, that the market garden would look good from the restaurant car park.

After an in depth discussion on the needs and ambitions of the market garden, Edible Landscaping, came up with a number of concept sketches which incorporated a raised bed system for vegetable production, a landscape of fruit trees, soft fruit, unusual fruiting species, coloured willow for beauty and commercial value and a free range chicken area incorporating a permaculture chicken greenhouse combined structure.

The raised beds make use of the vast quantities of vegetable waste coming from the restaurant by being filled in with the vegetable waste which is left to compost - a neat and sustainable solution to providing the fertility needed for growing vegetables. The chickens provide heat for the plants in the greenhouse over winter. The coloured willow & fruiting plants break up the solid outline of the raised beds  creating a visually appealing and naturalistic feel.

Green consultancy and design can improve your business premises, creating attractive, functional and low maintenance landscapes which will be a talking point amongst your customers. Functional landscapes, can include edible landscapes, wildlife havens, theme gardens (e.g. a garden made up of edible flowers), or combinations of all three. A green landscape is good for business. It can help promote your business and create positive benefits for the workforce.

Edible Landscaping offers an initial consultation where the needs and aspirations of your sustainable business landscape are discussed. From this initial consultation, Edible Landscaping will draft a number of concept sketches which will encompass the ideas discussed at the initial meeting. The concept sketches will then be explored and changes and amendments taken into account. Edible Landscaping will then create a final design based on these discussions.

This final design will include:
